By the time you read this, Deezer is receiving 75,000 fully AI-generated tracks per day. Spotify has removed over 75 million of them. A band with no members, no tour dates, and no verifiable humans behind it quietly crossed hundreds of thousands of monthly listeners before anyone noticed.
That's where we are.
And, this band has over 100K listeners on Spotify! In what world is this okay? Ironically, it's an AI Christian band. I'm no theologian but there is more than one place in the Bible that mentions lying. (Leviticus 19:11 - "You shall not steal; you shall not deal falsely; you shall not lie to one another"). Isn't creating a completely AI generated Christian band with bios of imaginary artists that share that they grew up together in Oregon or were raised on a cattle ranch in Wyoming the very definition of lying? Do you know who are not big users of AI? Wyoming cattle ranchers (no offense to my Wyoming cattle ranching friends and family).
Generative AI has made it possible to fabricate an entire musical act from nothing. Fake name. Fake bio. Fake band photo. Music generated in minutes by a text prompt. Then uploaded at industrial scale to steal from streaming royalty pools that real artists depend on (remember, Though Shalt Not Steal?). According to Forbes, this has become a $4 billion fraud machine. The people getting hurt are the ones who spent years actually learning their craft.
I find that genuinely offensive.
I've been playing music most of my life. I know what it costs to develop as an artist. The hours. The failed gigs. The feeling of finally connecting with a room. None of that has anything to do with a language model and a Spotify upload. Music isn't content to be generated. It's something people make, and it means something because of who made it and why.
getNgigs was built specifically for working musicians and the venues that support them. Profiles that represent real people making real music. A real act. Someone who plays shows, loads gear, communicates with bookers, and shows up. That's not a coincidence of our design. It's the entire point.
We don't verify heartbeats with a scanner. But the platform is built around a booking relationship that requires human behavior at every step: building a profile, posting gig availability, responding to inquiries, managing a calendar, submitting to open calls. What it can't absorb, without serious damage, is the wholesale fabrication of artists who were never real.
